Friday Post

The book so far has been a very fast read.  The book flies through Anthony’s life in the matter of pages, introducing little excerpts from throughout his life.  His main focuses on his life story are his various relationships with his friends and girls he has met.  He specifically focuses in on 3 people, Adrian, the very intelligent friend of his who committed suicide, Veronica, his first real girlfriend who is very mysterious and never really reveals her true feelings for him, and Margaret, the very easy to read and understand woman who he falls in love with and has a kid with.  Adrian seems to be the man he envies and simultaneously looks up to.  Since he was a teenager, he has always respected Adrian and wishes he had the intelligence to think on the same playing field as Adrian.  This is evident through the hurtful letter he writes to both Adrian and Veronica telling Veronica blatantly that she cannot manipulate Adrian due to his superior intelligence.  Veronica and Margaret represent the two sides to his mind.  On one side he likes the murky and mysterious people that he can’t quite figure out, kind of like Adrian.  Once he was tired of trying to figure her out, he swung completely the other way and loved a woman who was straightforward and wasn’t really hiding anything inside of her mind.  The story has turned from a brief description of his troubled past to the significance behind Adrian’s diary.  Adrian’s diary would have given Anthony the ability to see into his friend’s mind and understood the true reason for his sudden suicide.  Unfortunately Veronica is a bit of a wildcard, and has already burned the diary because she is a wildcard and that’s what wildcards do.  They do random things in order to prove their worthiness as a wildcard.  Anyway, Anthony now has really no way of seeing into his friends mind thanks to a complete wildcard move by Veronica.  Instead of the diary, she gives him the cruel letter that Anthony wrote Adrian and Veronica about their relationship.  Anthony had been angry, because Adrian decided to date his ex-girlfriend, so he wrote the letter more as a warning to Adrian and a f*** you to Veronica.  I am interested to see how Anthony is going to react now.  He has talked about going on an adventure since the beginning, so I have a suspicion that he will go on a quest to find the truth to Adrian’s suicide and complete Adrian’s final sentence regarding Anthony.
